David is responsible for design and administration for a variety of building projects. This involves close liaison with all members of the design team to ensure efficiency and continuity in delivering a quality solution to the client.

David also provides design advice on cost efficient compliance routes for statutory technical submissions.

Relevant Experience


In relation to educational and residential developments this includes the following:-
Special Needs – design and technical assessment to convert and extend existing educational buildings, including historic buildings, to meet the needs of the particular building occupancy profile.

 Primary Schools – project management including obtaining statutory heritage/technical consents to provide pragmatic solutions in bringing accommodation into use.

Further Educational and Residential - numerous projects in Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties including life safety fire risk assessment. In relation to assessment of fire risk and action planning this includes:-
  • Undertaking life safety fire risk assessment programmes in relevant buildings, development of building specific action plans and development of information identifying prioritisation for strategic financial planning for Oxford colleges.
  • Action planning for life safety risk assessed works prioritised to protect primarily life safety in Oxford colleges.
In relation to public buildings this includes assessment of fire and public safety and accessibility for compliance with technical requirements for the following:-
  •  Residential and teaching facilities buildings
  • Conversions of historic buildings for residential and retail uses
  • Extensions to historic buildings used as museums
  • Pragmatic assessment of safe occupant levels in stadia, theatres and the like

Personal Strengths


In his previous employment as principal building control surveyor in the City of Oxford, David amassed more than 20 years' experience of responsibility for assessment and value engineering to achieve pragmatic, cost efficient and technically compliant design solutions primarily in relation to fire safety, public safety and accessibility.

A significant proportion of projects were those within buildings/sites of significant architectural and historical importance. The projects span the spectrum of development in Oxford and the surrounding area.

He has further developed this experience in the time that he has been with Sidleys into fire risk assessment, design accessibility and action planning for several Oxford colleges and also for other commercial clients to achieve pragmatic, efficient, compliant and workable project and college wide solutions.
